Finnish walk-friendly small town with beautiful nature, museum, shops, market square, restaurants and cafeterias with glutenfreeoptions. one hour from Helsinki.

Spending a whole day in Karkkila is recommended - there is a lot to explore, you easily get everywhere from the Karkkila bus station as everything is on walking distance.

I love to come here for walking and strolling, just enjoying the landscape sceneries as the nature is very varied within a small area. Within one or two hour walking distance there are sightly fields and stunning meadows, lovely forests and parks, wonderful lake, likeable beaches and shores, rippling river beautifully surrounded by lush greenery, many very fancy old houses and awesome historical buildings.

If you're lucky you may get an opportunity to see traditional Finnish outdoor carpet washing, by the the locals, nearby the water. Locals bring all their carpets from their house for a scrub and hand washing, both men and women.

The smell of fresh laundry soap is felt in the air and carpets are left hang out to dry in the open air.

I leave it you to explore Karkkila - btw, the town is Högfors in Swedish, Karkkila in Finnish - and also keep an eye on signs, with ideas where to go.

What I don't like is the lack of benches and public sitting areas, there could be lot, lot, lot more placed around everywhere in the nature. Another disgusting thing is the beaches unfortunately pestered of goose p...if sunbathing one must try to find a goose p free spot somewhere.

But anyways, don't hesitate to visit Karkkila, it's a lovely place for nature lovers who needs to escape the busy city life, walking and enjoy nature instead and explore some amazing places.

NOTE! Keep in mind, many places are closed on Mondays!
